2021 Season Updates

Update for Friday, April 9, 2021

CDLA Parents and Players

This is an update from the message we circulated yesterday (Thursday, April 9).  We have received a new confirmation from AHS that we can continue to offer player camps with 2 groups of 10 on the same indoor playing surface.

We apologize for any confusion this may have caused.

Update for Thursday, April 8, 2021

CDLA Parents and Players

With the recent Alberta Government announcement to return to Stage 1, there was some confusion of the impact of this on youth sports programs operated in indoor arenas and the number of players and coaches who could participate in these sessions.

The CDLA was provided clarification on this and the new restriction is that only one youth group can occupy an indoor playing surface at a time.  Until now, clubs had been offering programs where we had 2 groups on the floor but this has now changed to only 1 group being allowed on the floor at one time.

All CDLA clubs currently running programs are updating them now to conform to this new requirement.  Please contact your club for further details.

Sincerely,

Update for Tuesday, April 7, 2021

CDLA Parents and Players

We wanted to provide you with a quick update following yesterday’s announcement by the Alberta Government and AHS concerning the return to Step 1.

The ALA and CDLA have assessed the impact of this announcement and are happy to advise our members that clubs may continue with the current ‘camp’ formats as planned.  This means that two groups of 10 players can be on the same playing surface as long as 3-meters of physical distancing can be maintained between the groups of 10 and the groups do not intermingle.

Furthermore, we would like to advise everyone that we are committed to running a season and will be ready to do so as soon as AHS guidelines allow for it.

For now, all CDLA clubs will be continuing to offer their respective programs.  If you have any questions, we ask that you contact your local club.

Sincerely,

Kevin Murray
Executive Director
Calgary District Lacrosse Association

Update for Friday, March 26, 2021

CDLA Parents and Players

Just a quick update on where things stand in light of the most recent announcements from AHS.

CDLA clubs remain committed to holding a lacrosse season that involves games between clubs. The CDLA continues to prepare for a season that we hope will involve games, while complying with the current health and safety guidance.

In the meantime, clubs will continue to run programs under the current restricted health measures.  Details of how each club is doing that will come directly from each club. Even if there is no change in the current regulations in the next 3 weeks, and possibly even later, the CDLA clubs have the flexibility to hold a season that either continues the restricted programs currently in place or possibly involves games between clubs.

So in other words...we are still in 'hurry up and wait mode'!  But we are ready to move as soon as things open up!

Sincerely,

Kevin Murray

Calgary District Lacrosse Association

Update for Tuesday, February 23, 2021

CDLA Parents and Players

In this update, I want to go over some of the things that will need to come together once we have a season start date. Normally we would plan and execute these tasks over a number of months, but this year, once we get the go ahead to start the season, they will all need to be done within a few weeks!  Here’s a quick overview of our action plan once we know the date!

  1. Finalize Registrations - Make sure everyone who wants to play has registered. Once we get the go ahead to start, we will need to have everyone registered ASAP!
  2. Create Teams and Cohorts - Each club has their own formula for this but of course they need to have their registrations finalized.  We also need to have all our coaches and managers in place.
  3. Book Facilities - We need to know which facilities will be open for us and carefully book only the floor we need based on our team numbers in each division.
  4. Make Schedule - Using our team and cohort list, create a schedule for the season.
  5. Referees - While all this is going on, we will be assessing how many referees we will have for the season and at which levels.  The completed schedule then needs to be sent to the referees so they can assign referees to games.
  6. Start League - Once all the items above are complete, we can start the league.

All of this takes a bit of time...almost 2-3 weeks in fact, so we ask that you be patient. Rest assured, we will be working on it as fast as we can to get things started as soon as we know when the season will begin.

As mentioned previously, a new webpage has been set up on the CDLA website and this page will feature the latest information on the 2021 season.  This page can be found under 2021 Season / Information and Updates - below is the direct link to the page:

Update for Monday, February 15, 2021

CDLA Parents and Players

Just a reminder that registration will be open in most CDLA clubs today!  At this time, clubs will be asking for a deposit followed by a number of staggered payments throughout the season. Please check your club’s website for more detailed information on fees and payments.

I’m sure you’re all wondering when the season will start!  You will be the first to know as soon as we know. Rest assured we will be ready to spring into action once we know. Thanks for your continued patience.

I hope you are having an enjoyable and safe Family Day weekend.

Yours in lacrosse.

Update for Thursday, February 11, 2021

CDLA Parents and Players

The CDLA continues to plan for the 2021 season.  Some of our member clubs are currently assessing the recent announcement by AHS and the updated “Alberta Lacrosse Path Forward Step One” information as it relates to new guidelines and lacrosse programming.  Your club will provide you with more detailed information on this in the coming days.

In the meantime, CDLA clubs are looking to open registration for the 2021 season on February 15th.  At this time, we plan to offer a lacrosse program this spring that is as close to the regular 5 on 5 game you know for 12U and up.  As for the 6U and 8U divisions, the plan is to set up 50 person cohorts and these groups will remain together for the season.  All of this of course depends on how many registrations we get, what facilities we have access to and the AHS and ALA guidelines that will be in place.

A new webpage has been set up on the CDLA website and this page will feature the latest information on the 2021 season.  This page can be found under 2021 Season / Information and Updates - below is the direct link to the page:

Update for Friday, February 5, 2021

CDLA Parents and Players

I wanted to provide you with a quick update on the general plan for 2021 lacrosse season.  The CDLA is working hard to prepare for the 2021 season and will be ready to implement a return to play plan once we have the green light from Alberta Health Services and the Alberta Lacrosse Association.

The CDLA has worked with its member clubs and come up with the following guiding principles for the upcoming season.

Registration Opening Date - At this time, most clubs will open registration on February 15th.

Registration Fees - For the coming season, all clubs will have a similar fee structure but the actual fees the clubs charge will vary from club to club.  The format that all clubs will adopt is an initial non refundable ‘save your spot’ deposit followed by 3 separate installment payments throughout the season.  Although the actual fees will vary from club to club, the initial deposit would be minimal (approximately $50-$75) and then the following installment fees would be approximately 30% of total fees each.  We hope that our member families will appreciate this ‘pay as you play’ structure as opposed to having to pay everything up front.

Season Dates - We honestly don’t know at this point when the season will begin or end.  As soon as we find out, you will be the first to know!  Keep in mind that if the season starts late, we MAY extend the season into July but this is yet to be confirmed.

Season Format - At this point it will be similar to how things are organized in hockey and ringette - a 50 person cohort of players and coaches.   We will provide more details on this once we have a better handle on our forecasted registration numbers.

Please stay tuned for more details.  We will continue to send out mass emails as well as post on social media.  In the meantime, please stay safe.

Yours in lacrosse,

Kevin Murray
