CDLA Overview

The Calgary District Lacrosse Association (the CDLA), in one form or another, has been organizing Minor Box Lacrosse in Calgary and the surrounding district for over 30 years and is the council for all lacrosse clubs in the City of Calgary and region, including minor and major box and men’s and women’s field lacrosse. The Calgary District Lacrosse Association provides administration for fundraising, scheduling of games, coordination of referee payments and provides a forum for lacrosse development. It includes eight box lacrosse clubs: Calgary Axemen, Calgary Sabrecats, Calgary Hornets, Calgary Knights, High River Heat, Okotoks Mustangs, Rockyview Rage and Strathmore Venom. The CDLA also has 2 associate members Calgary Winter Lacrosse and Calgary Field Lacrosse.

Mission Statement:

To govern and promote a safe and respectful environment for the growth and development of all minor lacrosse participants within the CDLA boundaries.

CDLA Strategic Plan - October 2017

For the upcoming season we are anticipating enrollment of approximately 3,000 players (boys and girls) from the ages of 4-16 playing on over 225 teams. The CDLA is comprised of 8 Clubs, 1 from each quadrant of the City of Calgary (Axemen-SE, Hornets-NW, Knights-NE and Sabrecats-SW) and 4 from areas surrounding Calgary (Rockyview Rage-Cochrane and Airdrie, High River Heat, Strathmore Venom, and the Okotoks Mustangs).

About 12 years ago there were less than 600 minor box players playing in the CDLA, but with the growth in Calgary and area, players looking for alternatives to other organized sports and the establishment of the Calgary Roughnecks and professional lacrosse in Calgary, the sport has seen rapid growth. Such expansion has been no better demonstrated then with the advent of the Mini-Tyke program. Eight years ago this program did not exist within the CDLA and now we are expecting that there will be 20 teams (approximately 120 players) playing in the upcoming season.
